Hello Dear Readers,
I am so glad to meet you! I am the award-winning author of the middle grade Oak Lane Stable Adventure Series—novels inspired from my lifelong passion for horses. With almost three decades as a professional horsewoman, I bring my stories to life with drama pulled from the realities of the hunter/jumper show world through the eyes of a young rider.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in Interior Architecture & Design, with minor work in Illustration, Graphic Design, English, and Art History. I went on to a Master of Arts from Mount Mary University in English—with an emphasis on Novel Writing for Middle Grade/Young Adult Readers and Literature. My thesis was a continuation of a 40-page middle grade novel started in my second semester, which later became Mystery Horse at Oak Lane Stable, Book 1 in the Adventure Series. I was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta for Excellence in English my final semester at Mount Mary.
In addition to my education, I have experience as a judge for two juvenile book awards through Story Monsters Ink, professional book reviews, in-person author school visits, and presenting Editing Novels to the Waukesha NaNoWriMo Writers Group, along with a 15-year membership to the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, which shows my dedication to learning the fine art of writing for a young audience, then sharing my passion for writing stories and novel creation with others who are eager to learn.
My book series went from Mystery Horse at Oak Lane Stable (Book 1) to Gray Horse at Oak Lane Stable (Book 2), Dark Horse at Oak Lane Stable (Book 3), and Ghost Horse at Oak Lane Stable (Book 4) being released this October, 2023, with inspiration for Book 5, Lesson Horse at Oak Lane Stable in progress. Praise for the middle grade horse book series includes:
The Midwest Equestrian Magazine says, “Lukasavitz’s knowledge of the horse and show world, mixed with her riveting storytelling, make for an educational and delightful read.”
Children’s Bookwatch says, “This coming-of-age book has everything a young girl could want: danger, teen romance, life-changing decisions, and of course, horses.”
The Reader’s Favorite says, “(Dark Horse) is a satisfying story, one that will give you a good look at kindness and courage.”
The books have been recognized as the 2022 & 2021 Silver Medal Finalists for the Midwest Book Awards for Children’s Fiction, the 2022 Purple Dragonfly Book Award Winners for Middle Grade Fiction, and the 2019 Royal Book Award Winner for Newbie Author. My other writing awards include being the 2020 Lakefly Writers Contest for Flash Fiction, a finalist for WOW! (Women on Writing) 2020 Short Story Contest, and the 2019 Hal Prize Winner for Nonfiction.
I now own and live with my husband on my family’s small Wisconsin farm (purchased by my parents in 1969), where I grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the Kettle Moraine. A percentage of my books’ sales are donated to the Midwest Horse Welfare Association, the Wisconsin Humane Society, and the Washington County Humane Society because they are passionate and dedicated to animal welfare as much as I am.
